David,
We’ve given our grandkids copies of all of your children’s books. I keep a couple of your books with us as we travel the country with Sojourners, working at children’s homes and church camps. Stephanie and I spent the last two weeks working at Quartz Mountain Christian Camp. I gave the camp managers’ son a copy of Melvin the Mysterious, and told him I knew the author. A few days later he asked me to tell you that he enjoyed the book very, very much. I told him I would pass along his comments. You are in our prayers.
I did not know he was leaving, but I just finished his youthful book about Hank and loved it a few days ago and was going to contact him to tell him so! (I had bought the book at least a year ago but hadn’t gotten to it until now)
Having been born in Australia, I was drawn to the Australian missions booth at ACC’s Lectureship tent, when I was in high school and met David Roper. He was influential in my love of missions and Australia.
Over the years I have never lived near him, but have trusted him to reach out for scriptural advice, have enjoyed several of his books and greatly appreciated his lifelong work for the Lord.
